Tizanidine HCl
Indications/Uses
Painful muscle spasm associated w/ static & functional disorders of the spine (cervical & lumbar syndromes) & following surgery (for herniated intervertebral disc or OA of the hip). Spasticity due to neurological disorders (eg, multiple sclerosis, chronic myelopathy, degenerative diseases of the spinal cord, CVA, cerebral palsy).
Dosage/Direction for Use
Painful muscle spasms 2-4 mg tid. Spasticity due to neurological disorders Max initial dose: 6 mg/day in 3 divided doses, then increase stepwise to 12-36 mg/day.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity; concomitant therapy w/ ciprofloxacin or fluvoxamine.
Special Precautions
Impaired kidney or liver function. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery.
Adverse Reactions
At low dose: Drowsiness, fatigue, dizziness, dry mouth, nausea, slight reduction in BP. At high dose: Muscle weakness, insomnia, bradycardia, hypotension, transient increase in serum transaminases.
Drug Interactions
Antihypertensives including diuretics, ciprofloxacin, fluvoxamine, alcohol & sedatives.
